History

Mountain Valley Academy is a special program.  The founders have a long history of serving troubled youth. In the late 1950’s, Oliver and Frances Milhous, with their two sons and families,  provided a home and vocational training for foster children on their ranch in Nevada City. Ever since then, MVA has played a crucial role in California’s safety net for children and youth who require out of home placement. Based in Nevada County, CA with additional programs in Sacramento, CA, Mountain Valley provides behavioral, educational and mental health services to youth and their families across California.  Mountain Valley is the residential treatment center of choice for referring agencies due to its rural location, healthy outdoor environment, the longevity of its staff and leadership, as well as the compassionate, effective, high quality services to children.

Mountain Valley Academy (MVA) is a unique and enriching residential school experience for Special Education students to meet their challenges in a supportive and outdoor-oriented environment.
