History

Milhous Children’s Services Mountain Valley Academy is a special program of Milhous Children’s Services. The founders of Milhous Children’s Services (MCS) have a long history of serving troubled youth. In the late 1950’s, Oliver and Frances Milhous and their two sons provided a home and vocational training for foster children on their ranch in Nevada City. Ever since then, MCS has played a crucial role in California’s safety net for children and youth who require group home placement. Based in Nevada County, CA with programs in Sacramento, MCS provides behavioral, family, educational and mental health services to youth from across California. Milhous Children’s Services is the residential treatment center of choice for referring agencies due to its rural location, healthy outdoor environment, the longevity of its staff and leadership and the compassionate, effective, high quality of its services to children.

Milhous Children’s Services is proud to introduce Mountain Valley Academy (MVA) a unique and enriching residential school experience for Special Education students to meet their challenges in a supportive and outdoor-oriented environment. Mountain Valley Academy will be open to Special Education students in January 2017.
