History

MVA is a special residential education facility. Our founders have a long history and commitment to serving troubled youth. In the late 1950s, Oliver and Frances Milhous along with their two sons and families on their Nevada City ranch provided a home and vocational training for foster children. Ever since the family and MVA have played a crucial role in California’s safety net for children and youth who require out-of-home placement.

Mountain Valley Child & Family Services (MVCFS) is based in Nevada County, CA with additional programs in Sacramento, CA. MVCFS provides behavioral, educational, and mental health services to youth and their families across California.

MVCS is the residential treatment center of choice for referring agencies due to its rural location, healthy outdoor environment, the longevity of staff and leadership, as well as its compassionate, effective, and high-quality services to children.

MVA provides a unique and enriching residential school experience that helps special education students meet their challenges in a supportive, outdoor, and family oriented-environment.
